When my big brother got married almost three years ago, I was thrilled. Mark has always been the kind of guy who deserves every good thing life has to offer. He's smart and kind and hilarious. After high school I really learned to appreciate him, and we've become great friends in the years since we first left home.
When I first met Brittany, I loved her southern accent immediately ("my ipod = mipod"). As we got to know each other, I enjoyed spending time with her. She's funny and kind and thoughtful and we had some good times.
Mark was the first one of my siblings to get married, and I was really excited for him and Brittany.
In the years since they got married, Dann and I have had a lot of good times with these two. It's been fun to be newly married with them, and to get to know Brittany better over time.
We've shared a lot of meals at my parents' house:
Celebrated a few weddings together:
Celebrated Easter together:
And just generally had some pretty good times:
If there's one thing that's become more clear with time, it's that these two are GREAT for each other.
When we found out a few weeks ago that Mark had accepted a new job teaching at Clover High School in Clover, SC, I felt sad at first. I've never lived that far away from my brother! I've always been able to count on seeing him at least a few times a month! Sad!
But when I heard from each of them individually what they were excited about and how good they each think this move will be for them, I knew it was the best thing they could decide to do right now.
I'm excited for Mark and Brita to be living in a place where they feel surrounded by a community that cares for them. I'm excited for them to both be close enough to the high school to be involved in all kinds of things. Lucky high school kids won't know what hit 'em. I'm excited to visit them because they are likely going to be LIVING ON A FARM. I'm excited for them to feel settled in a place where they want to raise kids, because I'm excited for them to start having kids.
Mark and Brita, I'm going to miss you.
Look out Clover, they're comin' for ya!
