UPDATE: The winner is Susan Phillips! Thanks to everyone who participated!

If you knew me in 2008, it’s possible I sent you an email about my first ever blog post, which I wrote exactly six years ago today. For real - I signed up for a free blogger account, wrote three paragraphs about wanting to have a blog because other people did, then proceeded to email the URL to all my family and friends.

I realize now that the appeal of writing for an actual audience is what drew me in. I hadn’t experienced the thrill of knowing other people might be reading my words since working on my high school newspaper nearly a decade prior, and I’ve always been fascinated by the power of words in connecting us to one another.

Since that first blog post six years ago, some hilarious things have happened. I spent a year blogging about baking cupcakes. I tried co-writing a blog with my husband. For a while, I had myself convinced that I should be writing blog posts every day, even if they were about nothing of substance.

But at the same time, I’ve learned a ton about who I am and what I have to say and how I want to go about saying it. I’ve been inspired by my girl Maggie, who’s used her blog to do so many extraordinary things for herself and others. I’ve found the courage to try tap dancing, writing fiction, and baking pie. And best of all, I’ve met a bunch of other high-quality humans in real life that I may not have otherwise known.

All of this to say, I’d like to celebrate those of you who are here with me. Maybe you've been reading since that first hilarious post six years ago. Maybe this is the first time you've read anything I wrote. Either way, I'm glad you're here and I like to party. So I’m giving away a package of some of my favorite things, listed below:

- My favorite record from the last year, Patty Griffin’s American Kid

- My favorite book that I read in the last year, George Saunders’ Tenth of December

- My favorite cookbook that was published in the last year, The Four & Twenty Blackbirds Pie Book

- And just for fun, a tote reminiscent of Daria, in your choice of four colors

To enter, leave a comment below. I’ll choose a winner at random next Wednesday, February 19.
