Lately, From The Library

Oh hello. Happy Thursday. There’s a rumor going around that we may get actual snow overnight here in Denver and I just don’t know if I can contain my excitement. I realize it’s barely October, but I love the first snow of the year. It makes me feel like Christmas is just around the corner because, well, you know, IT IS.

Anyway, here’s what I’m reading lately.

Kate Christensen’s Blue Plate Special has been outstanding so far. I’m about halfway through, and I’ve identified so strongly with each of her stories even though my parents are not divorced and I’ve never lived in France. The book is anchored by food and family, those inescapable facts of life that have the power to sustain and satisfy and also slowly, sneakily destroy. I started this one immediately after finishing Michael Paterniti’s The Telling Room, and now I want to write a book about food and my life.

I picked up Jennifer Egan’s A Visit From The Goon Squad because it won the Pulitzer and she’s coming to Denver soon and I’ve never read any of her books and I’m trying to be more literary.

Daily Rituals: How Artists Work and Life After Life are both books I heard about from people I follow on twitter. I’m confident they’ll both be worthwhile and hopeful that they’ll both be enjoyable.

What are you reading these days?
